Resumo: The objective of this study was to get to know the clinical and sociodemographic characteristics of patients undergoing hemodialysis treatment in the west of Santa Catarina, through a retrospective consultation in medical records, with a sample of 70 patients undergoing hemodialysis. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics. The project was approved by the ethics committee of the State University of Santa Catarina under the number 248,116 / 2013. The results indicate a predominance of male individuals, aged between 40 and 59 years, white, retired, with low level of schooling. The main complication during dialysis was hypotension, the cause of Chronic Kidney Disease was diabetes mellitus. It is believed that campaigns to prevent hypertension and diabetes are an alternative to modify this profile.
