Analysis of factors related to infant mortality in Chapecó, Santa Catarina, from 2000 to 2012

Resumo: Objective: To describe the factors related to mortality of children under one year old in Chapecó, Santa Catarina. Methods: this is an epidemiological study, of the observational type, with secondary data from the Mortality Information System from 2000 to 2012 was carried out statistical analysis using the Chi-squared tests and Relative Risk. We used p <0.05 significance level. Results: reported to 484 infant deaths in the period, of which there was a significant relationship between infant mortality and duration of pregnancy, as well as maternal education, and birth weight. In addition, the relative risk for deaths linked to diseases of the perinatal period, infectious, parasitic and respiratory system. Conclusion: Although infant mortality rates are decreasing, still characterized as a public health problem and a challenge to be overcome by the Unified Health System, as many infant deaths are from preventable and avoidable causes.

Métodos: trata-se de um estudo epidemiológico descritivo com dados secundários provenientes do Sistema de Informação sobre Mortalidade no período de 2000 a 2012. Realizou-se a análise estatística através dos testes Qui-quadrado de Pearson e Risco Relativo. Utilizou-se p<0,05 como nível de significância. Resultados: notificaram-se 484 óbitos infantis no período, dos quais houve relação significativa entre os óbitos infantis e a duração da gestação, assim como escolaridade materna, e o peso ao nascer. Além disto, risco relativo para óbitos ligados a afecções do período perinatal, doenças infecciosas, parasitárias e do aparelho respiratório.
