Os efeitos da histerectomia sobre o aumento de peso na mulher

For women, gynecological surgeries have peculiar aspects, having negative impacts at different levels, from physical to emotional. Regarding body image, among other complications, abdominal distention, weight gain and increased risk of overweight and obesity were observed after the procedure. This study aimed to identify the relationship between surgical removal of the uterus and weight gain in hysterectomized women. This is a descriptive, observational study carried out from March to June 2018, where hysterectomized women present at a philanthropic institution that provides services in the area of women’s health in the city of Aracaju, Sergipe, underwent a interview questioning about changes in body weight and body image after the procedure. Subsequently all data was transferred to a worksheet in Microsoft Excel for statistical analysis. It was evidenced that 77% (n=43) of the 56 participants denied recognition of negative changes after hysterectomy. Regarding the probable weight gain after surgery, 50% (n=28) stated that there was a significant increase in their weight, however, 46% (n=26) of the interviewees did not relate the surgical removal of the uterus with changes in weight.
