Resumo: Family farming in Brazil proves important because it contributes to the reduction of social and economic problems of families living in rural areas and because they can promote food security of a territory and its sustainable development. However, knowing that the collective organization of production units influences the efficiency of the chains which have participation, this article was intended to analyze the importance of social capital in the cooperative relations between the members of the largest farmers cooperative in this one Brazilian state, COOP-LARGE. There was no evidence identified that characterized the development of that through cooperative relationships of trust between members of the network actions or reciprocity. According to farmers, the biggest barriers to cooperation were mainly individualism and lack of interest in expanding the cooperative relationship network and participate actively in the activities of the cooperative.
