Resumo: The increase in physical inactivity is one of the responsible for many people acquiring Chronic Noncommunicable Diseases (NCDs), such as Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (DM2). Individuals with DM2 have difficulty in complying with physical exercises and Yoga can be proposed as an exercise option for this population. The objective of the study is to review the literature about the effects of non-conventional modalities, especially Yoga, in the control of DM2. The study is a narrative review. The survey was developed without restriction of languages and publication data. It was found that the training modalities do not seem to respond with glycemic, psychological and physical improvements in the treatment of DM2. Yoga promotes improvements in fasting glucose, HbA1c, lipid profile and hormonal control. More studies need to be carried out to elucidate the real benefits of Yoga in the treatment of DM2.
