Resumo: Literature has been a place of memory, a space of expression of individual and collective memories. In some cases, it is the place where memory is not the object of discussion, but oblivion. This paper aims at the analysis of Valter Hugo Mãe’s novel A máquina de fazer espanhóis (2000), in order to demonstrate how the fiction approaches the boundaries and the interweaving of identity, history, memory and oblivion through the characters’ individual stories.
