Resumo: In this paper, I present an interpretative reading of the political events which led to the impeachment of Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff, considered here as a political coup. For this purpose, images that circulated through social movements from April to May of 2016, prior to the President’s oust, are presented. In order to problematize the issue of the meaning, I revisit the notions of ideology and discursive formation, which are considered to be essential in the theoretical framework of Discourse Analysis based on Michel Pêcheux. The images are then compared to other ones, which circulated during the period when Brazil was under military dictatorship, with the objective of showing the point of intersection between language and history, in order to perceive the meaning relations, which underlie the coups taken place in Brazil.

Para tanto, são trazidas algumas imagens que circularam durante os movimentos sociais que antecederam a destituição da presidenta de seu cargo, os quais ocorreram durante o período de março a maio de 2016. A fim de problematizar a questão do sentido, revisito as noções de ideologia e de formação discursiva, as quais apresentam-se como basilares à Análise de Discurso de Michel Pêcheux, teoria que fundamenta este estudo.
