Resumo: | Researchers are currently attracting interest in the search for the causes and mechanisms involved in the loss of functional fitness with advancing age and for this reason it is important to create strategies to minimize this loss and maintain or improve health at this stage of life. The aim of this study was to analyze the effects of the Pilates Solo Method (MPS) on the functional fitness and cognitive performance of the elderly. This is an experimental study with pre and post test, involving a pilates group (GP) and a control group (GC). Individuals of both sexes, aged between 60 and 79 who did not practice regular physical exercises were included. Individuals with neurological, cardiovascular, respiratory and orthopedic diseases that prevent Pilates exercises, smoking habits and wheelchair use could not participate in the study. As evaluation instruments were used an evaluation form, Rikli and Jones test, dynamometer test and mini mental state exam. All evaluations were performed before the interventions and redone at the end of this period by the same evaluators. The GP received one-hour MPS classes twice a week for eighteen weeks. After this period, the GC also received the same number of classes. The program SPSS, version 21.0 for Windows was used. For data normality analysis, the Shapiro Wilk test was performed. As it was found that some variables had parametric distribution and others non-parametric, we used the paired t-test and Wilcoxon test in intra-group comparisons and for inter-group comparisons the t-test for independent samples and Mann Whitney test. As a result, a significant difference for the lower limb strength, upper limb strength, lower limb strength, TUG, functional aptitude, right and left arm dynamometer was obtained as a significant difference in the right arm dynamometer and right arm dynamometer. Still, a significant difference was obtained between the groups in lower limb flexibility and functional fitness. It was concluded that after 34 MPS classes, there was an improvement in functional capacity and muscle strength of the elderly. |

O objetivo do estudo foi analisar os efeitos do Método Pilates Solo (MPS) na aptidão funcional e desempenho cognitivo de idosos. Trata-se de um estudo experimental com pré e pós teste, envolvendo um grupo pilates (GP) e um grupo controle (GC). Foram incluídos indivíduos de ambos os sexos, com idade entre 60 e 79 não praticantes de exercícios físicos regulares. Não puderam participar do estudo os indivíduos que apresentassem doenças neurológicas, cardiovasculares, respiratórias e ortopédicas que impedem a realização dos exercícios de Pilates, apresentassem hábitos de tabagismo e utilizassem cadeira de rodas. Como instrumentos de avaliação foram utilizados uma ficha de avaliação, teste de Rikli e Jones, teste do dinamômetro e o mini exame do estado mental. Todas avaliações foram realizadas antes das intervenções e refeitas ao término desse período pelos mesmos avaliadores. O GP recebeu aulas do MPS com duração de uma hora, duas vezes na semana durante dezessete semanas. Após esse período, o GC também recebeu o mesmo número de aulas. Utilizou-se nas comparações intra-grupos o teste t pareado e teste Wilcoxon e para as comparações inter grupos o teste t para amostras independentes e teste Mann Whitney. Obteve-se como resultado, diferença significativa para o GP na força de membros inferiores, força de membros superiores, flexibilidade de membros inferiores, TUG, aptidão funcional, dinamômetro braço direito e esquerdo, no GC houve diferença significativa aptidão funcional e dinamômetro braço direito. Ainda, obteve-se diferença significativa entre os grupos em flexibilidade membros inferiores e na aptidão funcional. Concluiu-se que, após 34 aulas do MPS, houve melhora da capacidade funcional e força muscular de idosos.porUniversidade Federal de Santa MariaCentro de Educação Física e DesportosPrograma de Pós-Graduação em GerontologiaUFSMBrasilCiências da SaúdeAttribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 Internationalhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessEnvelhecimentoExercício físicoForça muscularAptidão funcionalDinamômetroPilatesAgingPhysical exerciseMuscle strengthFunctional fitnessDynamometerCNPQ::CIENCIAS DA SAUDEO efeito do método pilates na aptidão funcional e desempenho cognitivo de idososThe effect of the pilates method on functional fitness and cognitive performance of elderlyinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/masterThesisCorazza, Sara Teresinhahttp://lattes.cnpq.br/3820760544357387Santos, Daniela Lopes dosAzambuja, Cati ReckelbergFeijó, Marcia Gonzalezhttp://lattes.cnpq.br/2467447865739952Vasconcellos, Silvane Vagner4000000000016006006006002e53732f-7f5f-4448-a77b-22191a004739b5b63c3c-0879-4273-b07c-c9fb3e92374cf3fd9c2d-790f-482d-92a2-25fcb35466db55e23bdc-436c-41f9-870c-578d33e941d6befd56ce-3050-401a-bed2-4456ec77db99reponame:Repositório Institucional Manancial UFSMinstname:Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (UFSM)instacron:UFSMORIGINALDIS_PPGGERONTOLOGIA_2020_VASCONCELLOS_SILVANE.pdfDIS_PPGGERONTOLOGIA_2020_VASCONCELLOS_SILVANE.pdfDissertação de Mestradoapplication/pdf1883215http://repositorio.ufsm.br/bitstream/1/22129/1/DIS_PPGGERONTOLOGIA_2020_VASCONCELLOS_SILVANE.pdfe8b253dc366fe8f08c5258a368bb3766MD51CC-LICENSElicense_rdflicense_rdfapplication/rdf+xml;
