Resumo: This work considers a new proposal of light emitting diode (LED) driver with the function of visible light communication (VLC). VLC utilizes the light generated by LEDs for transmission of wireless data by modulating their current, which modulates their emitted light. The main hypothesis of this thesis centers on the idea that it is possible to attain high power efficiency while utilizing linear power amplifiers (LPAs) as part of an LED driver, through the confection of a hybrid converter. Thus, the solution aims to unite the high efficiency of switched power supplies with the high bandwidth capabilities of LPAs. The proposed circuit is capable of regulating the average level of the output current, for lighting purposes, while modulating the instantaneous values of such current, for communication purposes. A wide literature review on the subject is presented, regarding dual-purpose drivers for LEDs. Hence, through the content observed, and considering an LED linear model, a single-inductor dual output DC-DC converter is presented, which processes the power for both lighting and communications. The hypothesis is sustained through the design of a circuit prototype in the form of a buck converter working along with a class AB amplifier. A design methodology is presented, together with a Laplace model in order to address the adequate design of the voltages, currents and bandwidth of the system. Moreover, the prototype is put under tests based on quantitative figures of merit, such as efficiency and error vector magnitude (EVM). The experimental results are compared with other similar works available in the literature. In conclusion, the prototype sustains the main hypothesis of this thesis showing a 94% efficiency, a 3,68 MHz bandwidth and a 6,05 megabits per second data rate capacity, while processing power from a 48 V DC bus, providing a 20 W output rated power to an LED load.

A VLC utiliza a luz gerada por LEDs para a transmissão de informação digital através da modulação da corrente elétrica, o qual modula a luz emitida. A hipótese principal desta tese se concentra na ideia de que é possível obter alta eficiência de processamento de energia utilizando amplificadores lineares de potência em um sistema de dupla função, através da confecção de um conversor híbrido. Portanto, a solução proposta permite unir o alto rendimento das fontes chaveadas com a alta largura de banda dos amplificadores lineares. O circuito proposto é capaz de regular a corrente média de saída, para fins de iluminação, bem como a corrente instantânea, modulada para fins de comunicação. Realiza-se uma ampla revisão bibliográfica a respeito das modalidades de circuitos de dupla função presentes na literatura. A partir do conteúdo observado, embasando-se no modelo linear de uma carga de LED, apresenta-se uma proposta de conversor híbrido CC-CC de um único indutor que processa a energia para duas saídas de tensão, de modo a processar as funções de iluminação em cada uma destas respectivas saídas. Sustenta-se a hipótese sugerida a partir da confecção de um protótipo de conversor rebaixador (buck) híbrido, concomitante com um amplificador linear classe AB, trabalhando em uma configuração paralela. É apresentada uma metodologia de projeto baseado na Transformada de Laplace, a fim de garantir o correto projeto das tensões, correntes e da largura de banda do sistema. Mais além, coloca-se o protótipo sobre a análise quantitativa de duas figuras de mérito: a eficiência energética e a magnitude do valor de erro (error vector magnitude). Os resultados são comparados com outros trabalhos similares presentes na literatura. Em conclusão, o protótipo sustenta a hipótese desta tese, ao processar a energia a partir de um barramento CC de 48 V, fornecendo 20 W de potência com eficiência de 94% para uma carga de LED. O sistema é capaz de fornecer uma largura de banda de 3,68 MHz e uma capacidade experimental de transmissão de 6,05 megabits por segundo, sendo esta última limitada somente pela qualidade do circuito receptor utilizado.Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPESporUniversidade Federal de Santa MariaCentro de TecnologiaPrograma de Pós-Graduação em Engenharia ElétricaUFSMBrasilEngenharia ElétricaAttribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 Internationalhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessConversor híbridoAlta eficiênciaAmplificador linearConversor estáticoCircuitos de acionamento para LEDsComunicação por luz visívelHybrid converterHigh efficiencyLinear amplifierSwitched converterLED driverVisible light communicationsCNPQ::ENGENHARIAS::ENGENHARIA ELETRICAConversor híbrido para sistemas de iluminação com comunicação por luz visívelHybrid converter for lighting systems with visible light communicationinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/doctoralThesisDalla Costa, Marco Antôniohttp://lattes.cnpq.br/4455422053321491Denardin, Gustavo WeberBraga, Henrique Antônio CarvalhoBeltrame, Rafael ConcattoSeidel, Álysson Ranierehttp://lattes.cnpq.br/5025582052896861Loose, Felipe3004000000076006006006006006006004e82ca7f-4cee-4e8a-9019-64e291cdf7cd43092406-e733-4967-a965-faa410353babe1a1d972-ceab-4892-beec-a08eaa1383b3db66013f-9a55-4f89-ba46-3656b98aa669f73b86dd-b7f0-410c-bd86-c74ce383e7c2271a5d28-490f-47d7-9b1b-b158af645373reponame:Manancial - Repositório Digital da UFSMinstname:Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (UFSM)instacron:UFSMORIGINALTES_PPGEE_2022_LOOSE_FELIPE.pdfTES_PPGEE_2022_LOOSE_FELIPE.pdfTese de Doutoradoapplication/pdf77137167http://repositorio.ufsm.br/bitstream/1/25777/1/TES_PPGEE_2022_LOOSE_FELIPE.pdfa6f3b6249559608d1d6a199acd619191MD51LICENSElicense.txtlicense.txttext/plain;
