Resumo: Studies show that urinary incontinence (UI) is associated with pelvic floor function, but little is known about this relationship in physically active elderly women according to the age stratum. The objective of this study was to analyze the functionality of the pelvic floor of physically active elderly women with and without urinary incontinence, according to the age stratum. This is a comparative descriptive research. The participants of the study were 79 elderly, 60 to 77 years old, with preserved cognitive function (Mini Mental State Examination), with functional independence (Katz Scale) and active physically evaluated by the accelerometer, enrolled in a university extension program and unit of the municipality of Santa Maria, RS. As a research instrument, the diagnostic data sheet with identification data, sociodemographic characteristics, urogynecologic aspects, health conditions such as presence of UI and physical activity, and functional evaluation of the pelvic floor were performed using the PERFECT Scheme. This research was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the Federal University of Santa Maria. After the invitation, through direct contact with the participants in the places where they participate in activities of the third age, the collection of data was scheduled. In this, the instruments were applied individually in the form of interviews, in adequate physical space and by previously trained researchers. The accelerometer was used seven days a week, with prior guidance for use. In order to compare the pelvic floor and its components (strength, resistance, repetition and rapidity) with the elderly women with and without UI, the t-test was used for independent samples or Mann Whitney U test (continuous variables), according to data distribution, or on Thu Fisher Square or Exact (categorical variables). The level of significance was 5%. The study included 79 physically active elderly women, 40 with UI and 39 without UI. The elderly practiced a higher weekly percentage of light physical activities. As to the functionality of the pelvic floor, the elderly of both groups presented a median strength of 2 to 3, maintenance of 0 to 2 seconds and of 2 to 3 repetitions of contractions maintained, differing in the number of fast contractions, where the group with IU presented from 3 to 4 and the group without UI 5 or more, only differing significantly when comparing groups with and without UI of different age groups, where the older women who had UI had a lower number of repetitions maintained compared to those had no urine leakage. It was concluded that there was no significant difference in the functionality of the pelvic floor of the elderly in general, but that aging proved to be a strong factor influencing the genesis of UI, since only the older women with UI had a lower number of repetitions than the other elderly women.

O objetivo deste estudo foi analisar a funcionalidade do assoalho pélvico de mulheres idosas fisicamente ativas com e sem incontinência urinária, de acordo com o estrato etário. Trata-se de uma pesquisa descritiva do tipo comparativa. As participantes do estudo foram79 idosas, com idade entre 60 e 77 anos, com função cognitiva preservada (Mini Exame do Estado Mental), com independência funcional (Escala de Katz) e ativas fisicamente (avaliadas pelo acelerômetro), cadastradas em programa de extensão universitário e unidade básica de saúde do município de Santa Maria, RS. Como instrumentos de pesquisa foram utilizados: a ficha diagnóstica com dados de identificação, características sociodemográficas, aspectos uroginecológicos, condições de saúde como presença ou não de IU e prática de atividade física. A avaliação funcional do assoalho pélvico foi realizada por meio do Esquema PERFECT. Esta pesquisa foi aprovada pelo Comitê de Ética em Pesquisa da Universidade Federal de Santa Maria. Após convite, mediante contato direto com as participantes nos locais onde participam de atividades da terceira idade, foi agendada a coleta de dados. Nesta, os instrumentos foram aplicados individualmente em forma de entrevista, em espaço físico adequado e por pesquisadoras previamente treinadas. O acelerômetro foi utilizado por sete dias da semana, com orientação prévia para a utilização. Para comparar o assoalho pélvico e seus componentes (força, resistência, repetição e rapidez) com as idosas com e sem IU foi utilizado o teste t para amostras independentes ou teste U de Mann Whitney (variáveis contínuas), conforme distribuição dos dados, ou Qui Quadrado ou Exato de Fisher (variáveis categóricas). O nível de significância foi de 5%. Participaram do estudo 79 idosas ativas fisicamente, sendo 40 com e 39 sem IU. As idosas praticavam maior percentual semanal de atividades físicas leves. Quanto à funcionalidade do assoalho pélvico, as idosas de ambos os grupos apresentaram uma força mediana de 2 a 3, manutenção de 0 a 2 segundos e de 2 a 3 repetições de contrações mantidas, se diferindo quanto ao número de contrações rápidas, onde o grupo com IU apresentou de 3 a 4 e o grupo sem IU 5 ou mais, apenas se diferenciando significativamente quando comparados grupos com e sem IU de diferentes estratos etários, onde as idosas mais longevas que possuíam IU obtiveram um menor número de repetições mantidas comparado às que não possuíam perdas de urina. Concluiu-se que não houve diferença significativa quanto à funcionalidade do assoalho pélvico das idosas em geral, mas que o envelhecimento demonstrou ser um forte fator influenciador para a gênese da IU, uma vez que apenas as idosas mais longevas com IU apresentaram menor número de repetições mantidas que as demais idosas.porUniversidade Federal de Santa MariaCentro de Educação Física e DesportosPrograma de Pós-Graduação em GerontologiaUFSMBrasilCiências da SaúdeAttribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 Internationalhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessIncontinência urináriaAssoalho pélvicoAtividade físicaIdosasUrinary incontinencePelvic floorPhysical activityElderlyCNPQ::CIENCIAS DA SAUDEFuncionalidade do assoalho pélvico de idosas ativas fisicamente com e sem incontinência urinária de acordo com estrato etárioFunctionality of the pelvic floor of physically active elderly with and without urinary incontinence according to age stratuminfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/masterThesisMazo, Giovana Zarpellonhttp://lattes.cnpq.br/3218844421449745Pivetta, Hedioneia Maria Folettohttp://lattes.cnpq.br/9518521941876440Braz, Melissa Medeiroshttp://lattes.cnpq.br/3515748001130422Virtuoso, Janeisa Franckhttp://lattes.cnpq.br/5299871757724016http://lattes.cnpq.br/7348687833806489Cielo, Adriana40000000000160063209527-7a71-466f-a4f7-619ff0e691e4befe5626-0365-4d04-bd87-5421ddf710d6c84dac4c-8c46-47db-89d5-fed8a5c6ec63767521fa-0ca6-420a-8ffd-625adb112baf62adff69-f3c6-42d6-9d0c-ec7f6d0f453dreponame:Manancial - Repositório Digital da UFSMinstname:Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (UFSM)instacron:UFSMORIGINALDIS_PPGGERONTOLOGIA_2018_CIELO_ADRIANA.pdfDIS_PPGGERONTOLOGIA_2018_CIELO_ADRIANA.pdfDissertação de Mestradoapplication/pdf967718http://repositorio.ufsm.br/bitstream/1/14240/1/DIS_PPGGERONTOLOGIA_2018_CIELO_ADRIANA.pdfcbff6365fb7794a624e032e0fd7b4cdaMD51LICENSElicense.txtlicense.txttext/plain;
