Resumo: Cancer is a chronic disease that has numerous repercussions on the life of the person who experiences it and their family, since there is no separate subject and disease, but an individual who falls ill together with his family. In situations where there is no longer a possibility of a cure, it is essential that the family is included in the care process, and should be considered a care unit. The study aimed to understand the experience of families facing illness due to cancer with no possibility of cure by one of its members. It is a family research, from a qualitative perspective, based on the theoretical-methodological framework of Grounded Theory (GT). Six families participated, totaling 15 people, living the experience of falling ill with cancer without the possibility of cure. As reference sites for attracting families, the Home Care Service (SAD) and the Palliative Care Team linked to the Santa Maria University Hospital (HUSM) were selected. Data were collected at the families 'residence and at the HUSM, from January to December 2019, through an in-depth interview recorded in audio and transcribed in full, in addition to the construction of the families' genogram and eco-map. For the storage and organization of the data, the Nvivo® version 10 program was used. The data analysis followed the steps recommended by the comparative method in the GT: open, selective and theoretical coding. The principles of the Resolution of the National Health Council n° 466/2012 were followed during all stages of the investigation, with the research being approved by the Research Ethics Committee under substantiated opinion n° 3.109.307. Data analysis resulted in five concepts: Discovering cancer; Suffering from the reality imposed by illness; Preparing to face illness; Deciding on treatment; Facing the finitude of life. From these, it was possible to identify the central category called LIVING ONE DAY AT EACH TIME, which resulted in the construction of the substantive theory “Allowing hope to be maintained: the experience of families facing illness due to cancer without the possibility of a cure”. The theory shows the movement that the family makes, both in its family dynamics and in its interpersonal interactions, since the discovery of cancer, the repercussions that this triggers in the family, going through the strategies used to face the illness and the treatment that culminates in the terminality of the patient's life. Knowing the families' understanding of becoming ill with cancer without the possibility of a cure can contribute to the reflections of nurses and other health professionals on care, which must consider the particularities and meanings of the experiences experienced by the family unit.

Nas situações em que não possui mais possibilidade de cura, é imprescindível que a família seja incluída no processo assistencial, devendo ser considerada unidade de cuidado. O estudo teve como objetivo compreender a experiência de famílias frente ao adoecimento por câncer sem possibilidade de cura por um de seus membros. Trata-se de pesquisa de família, na perspectiva qualitativa, pautada no referencial teórico-metodológico da Teoria Fundamentada nos Dados (TFD). Participaram seis famílias, totalizando 15 pessoas, vivenciando a experiência do adoecimento por câncer sem possibilidade de cura. Como locais de referência para captação das famílias, selecionou-se o Serviço de Atenção Domiciliar (SAD) e a Equipe Matricial de Paliação vinculados ao Hospital Universitário de Santa Maria (HUSM). Os dados foram coletados nas residências das famílias e no HUSM, no período de janeiro a dezembro de 2019, por meio de entrevista em profundidade gravada em áudio e transcrita na íntegra, além da construção do genograma e ecomapa das famílias. Para o armazenamento e organização dos dados utilizou-se o programa Nvivo® versão 10. A análise dos dados seguiu os passos preconizados pelo método comparativo constante da TFD: codificação aberta, seletiva e teórica. Os princípios da Resolução do Conselho Nacional de Saúde nº 466/2012 foram seguidos durante todas as etapas da investigação, sendo a pesquisa aprovada pelo Comitê de Ética em Pesquisa sob parecer consubstanciado n° 3.109.307. A análise dos dados resultou em cinco conceitos: Descobrindo o câncer; Sofrendo com a realidade imposta pelo adoecimento; Preparando-se para enfrentar o adoecimento; Decidindo a respeito do tratamento; Deparando-se com a finitude da vida. A partir destes, foi possível identificar a categoria central denominada VIVENDO UM DIA DE CADA VEZ, que resultou na construção da teoria substantiva “Permitindo-se manter a esperança: a experiência de famílias frente ao adoecimento por câncer sem possibilidade de cura”. A teoria evidencia o movimento que a família realiza, tanto em sua dinâmica familiar quanto em suas interações interpessoais, desde a descoberta do câncer, as repercussões que esse desencadeia na família, perpassando pelas estratégias utilizadas para enfrentar o adoecimento e o tratamento que culminam na terminalidade da vida do doente. Conhecer a compreensão das famílias acerca do adoecimento por câncer sem possibilidade de cura pode contribuir para reflexões dos enfermeiros e demais profissionais de saúde sobre o cuidado, que deve considerar as particularidades e significados das experiências vivenciadas pela unidade familiar.Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPESporUniversidade Federal de Santa MariaCentro de Ciências da SaúdePrograma de Pós-Graduação em EnfermagemUFSMBrasilEnfermagemAttribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 Internationalhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessFamíliaCuidados paliativos na terminalidade da vidaNeoplasiasEnfermagemTeoria fundamentadaFamilyHospice careNeoplasmsNursingGrounded theoryCNPQ::CIENCIAS DA SAUDE::ENFERMAGEMExperiência de famílias frente ao adoecimento por câncer sem possibilidade de curaExperience of families facing illness due to cancer without the possibility of a cureinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/masterThesisGirardon-Perlini, Nara Marilene Oliveirahttp://lattes.cnpq.br/4867558399150837Cordeiro, Franciele RobertaCogo, Silvana BastosHildebrandt, Leila Marizahttp://lattes.cnpq.br/9377929813756954Oliveski, Cínthia Cristina4004000000006006006006006006d357888-94a3-43f9-b92e-c8fea10f777d7bb4bbd1-2adb-4f05-8b2a-0c0c56136b97d7024371-3331-4e8b-acd4-0dc907fbfd602c301c55-6342-4520-8dae-4afe43d144852cf8e51c-0e33-47b3-9c37-6530f7408e59reponame:Repositório Institucional Manancial UFSMinstname:Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (UFSM)instacron:UFSMORIGINALDIS_PPGENFERMAGEM_2020_OLIVESKI_CINTHIA.pdfDIS_PPGENFERMAGEM_2020_OLIVESKI_CINTHIA.pdfDissertação de Mestradoapplication/pdf3034560http://repositorio.ufsm.br/bitstream/1/22163/1/DIS_PPGENFERMAGEM_2020_OLIVESKI_CINTHIA.pdfab0444834ff57075114c8f50758c692fMD51CC-LICENSElicense_rdflicense_rdfapplication/rdf+xml;
