Many environmental problems occur today. Among them is the question of thedestination of solid waste, garbage. Its correct destination becomes more necessary today,because incorrect disposal may harm the environment and people. This article addresses the topicof dry garbage and selective picking at the 4° Logistic Battalion in Santa Maria, aiming to educatesoldiers to act as environment heralds in the army and at the community. The methodology usedwas a closed questionnaire for data collection, lectures, distribution of brochures, and the displayof posters containing information on issues such as: what waste is, selective waste collection andrecycling, types of selective waste collection and the benefits of recycling, plus some information about the time of garbage decomposition. It was possible to perceive that the soldiers did nothave enough understanding on this issue. There is a clear need in all society, including the army, towork even more effectively on the issues of waste, selective waste collection and environmentaleducation. It is necessary to develop awareness on the soldiers and modification of attitudestowards environmental issues and their relationship to the quality of life. To obtain results in acohesive way in environmental issues it is necessary to involve all segments of society, includingthe military., to participate for reaching common goals. |
