The concern with the means of production, the environment and the production costs of livestock and agricultural activity, are factors that has led to research and producers need to adopt farming techniques more economical and sustainable. Thus, the integration of pastures with grain production, known as a system of crop-livestock integration, has provided the increase in productivity of the herd gaucho and also many benefits in agricultural production. In order to do an analysis on the system integration of crops and livestock farming in Rio Grande do Sul was developed this work. We used the method of presenting a literature review of aspects to this practice as well as its benefits, problems, difficulties and alternatives. It can be concluded that this system, with the no-tillage system, serves as the requirements of sustainability and lower costs of production activities, but has the acceptance of more traditional producers and also the high level of technical knowledge that the practice demands.
