Resumo: The use of insecticide seed treatments is intended to avoid possible loss of productivity,by attacks of pest insects to seeds and seedlings. The thiamethoxam is a neonicotinoid insecticideused to treat seeds of various crops to control different insect pests. This literature review aims todescribe and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of seed treatment with thiamethoxam. The molecule of thiamethoxam was first synthesized in 1991 and began to be marketed from 1998and is considered the first representative of the second generation neonicotinoid. It has a broadspectrum of insect pests, low rate of application in the field, excellent translocation in the plant, ishighly mobile in various soil types have high selectivity to various natural enemies of pests and hasbioactive effect, increasing the initial force some crops, and provide an increase in nitrogenmetabolism in soy.
