Resumo: During the period of April 1983 to September 1984 a fauna  survey  in  bracatinga (Mimosa scabrella, Benth.) was conducted in Almirante Tamandaré, PR. Samples were taken at 15 days time intervals in canopies of groves with 8, 42 and 60 months old using a canopy net, and the respective ground vegetation with a sweep net. To obtain the diversity index the  formula   alfa = (S-1)/log N was used. To tabulate  the data, the option was taken for the  orders  Homoptera, Hemiptera and Coleoptera, since they had greater quali-quantitative consistency. According to the data it became evident that as tree age increases there is a simultaneous increase in species diversity. In  regard to the two ecosystems studied the ground vegetation showed a greater diversity index as well as in regard to species diversity among families. Chrysomelidae present the higher index in the ecosystem formed by canopies and among different ground vegetation the most evident was the Curculionidae family.

Chrysomelidae present the higher index in the ecosystem formed by canopies and among different ground vegetation the most evident was the Curculionidae family.
