Resumo: This paper was carried out at the Federal University of Santa Maria Campus and aimed to determine the maté behavior (Ilex paraguariensis St. Hil.) planted in systems of silvicultural association. Th methodology used consisted of the use of three treatments, corresponding to the association systems of maté X Pinus sp., maté X Mimosa scabrella and maté X bush. The analysis of the results led to the following conclusions: the best maté growing results are obtained in the association with Mimosa scabrella and Pinus sp. And the worst one with the bush. The extreme variations of the environment are softened by the other species of association, high rates luminosity don’t provide a bigger production of dry matter and neither the low rates do.

The extreme variations of the environment are softened by the other species of association, high rates luminosity don’t provide a bigger production of dry matter and neither the low rates do.
