Resumo: The analysis of a course from the perspective of its graduate reveals not only the perception of the former student, but also brings the view of the labor market on issues inherent to academic training. This paper aims, through the assessment of the Chemical Engineering graduate of the Federal University of Triângulo Mineiro - UFTM -, to present data from the application of the validated instrument ‘Scale of evaluation of engineering courses by graduates’. The instrument was applied to Chemical Engineering graduates at UFTM who graduated from 2014 to 2020. The strengths and weaknesses of the course were identified regarding essential and expected competences, general satisfaction with the quality of teaching, didactics, and curriculum those that the course already performs and those that need greater investment and attention. In addition, the usual difficulties encountered when entering the labor market were highlighted; development to adapt to market requirements, need for changes in the approach to teaching; physical-structural changes and different forms of assessment. Aspects such as extracurricular activities, internships and professional perspectives were evaluated as potential to direct the implementation of the new National Curriculum Guidelines for Engineering and foster the focus on approach and development based on competences.
