Resumo: Cognitive and adaptive deficits may compromise the autonomy and independence development of people with intellectual disabilities. Thus, there is a need to evaluate the adaptive behavior of these people, so intervention programs can be planned and implemented. Therefore the present study aimed to analyze the adaptive behavior‘s assessment methods used in people with intellectual disabilities. This is a survey of qualitative and quantitative nature of the documentary type. Data were collected through the database of CAPES, and the Dynamed UptoDate. For data analysis we used descriptive statistics. The results showed a preference for standardized instruments, highlighting the scale of adaptive behavior - Vineland. However, some researchers chose to use standardized instruments, the most used direct observation. Generally, it was concluded that standardized instruments of the type scale are mostly used by researchers to evaluate the adaptive behavior of this population.
