The aim is to investigate and understand the importance of this school in the power relationship between state and society that was then. Period in which Brazilian society was undergoing political, social and economic - as the strengthening of the abolitionist movement and the army was seeking a higher valuation, as well as the formation of national identity - this school sought to train and guide these children who form this new society.A presente pesquisa é uma analise documental junto a uma reflexão historiográfica acerca da Escola de Aprendizes do Arsenal de Guerra de Porto Alegre, em meados dos oitocentos, especificamente recortado entre 1860 e 1870. O mesmo objetivou investigar e perceber a importância dessa escola na relação de poder entre o Estado e a sociedade que se constituía então. Para a análise foram utilizados as correspondências e ofícios do Arsenal de Guerra de Porto Alegre, localizados no Arquivo Histórico do Rio Grande do Sul( AHRS), além da historiografia referente ao tema.
