Formação continuada em Geografia: perspectivas docentes na rede estadual de Passo Fundo, RS

Resumo: | The concept of continuing education, as well as the ideas that regulate it, is a reason for discussion and concern both in the public and private spheres. Understanding the continuing education of Geography teachers as one of the elements that make up the educational, cultural, and political scenario of a nation is necessary when considering the graduation is insufficient for the professional to keep up to date regarding the processes and procedures, techniques, and methodologies of education. Concerning this, the present thesis defended in the Programa de Pós-Graduação in Geografia, at the Universidade Federal de Santa Maria, is justified by bringing the reality that Geography teachers face and assume as education professionals, since the objective was to understand the process of continuing education of Geography teachers in basic state education in Passo Fundo, RS, analyzing the advances, stagnations, setbacks, and challenges evidenced in its practice, from the beginning of the 21st century. The methodological approach used was qualitative in scope with the use of the dialectical method, from the triangulation of a bibliographic analysis, a focus group, and the responses of Geography teachers from the state public network of Passo Fundo to a questionnaire. At the end of the work, it was observed that continuing education meets the legal requirements but does not meet the teachers’ concerns. To this end, a proposal with an annual schedule and activities and a new organizational structure was created to meet the needs highlighted. Given what was researched, the urgency of continuing education in Geography that addresses the needs of teachers and highlights the daily life of the classroom, the specific routine of basic education, and the space where the school is inserted is clear. |

Compreender a formação continuada de professores de Geografia como um dos elementos que compõem o cenário educacional, cultural e político de uma nação é necessário quando se considera a graduação insuficiente para o profissional se manter atualizado quanto aos processos e procedimentos, técnicas e metodologias da educação. Nesse sentido, esta tese defendida no Programa de Pós-Graduação em Geografia, da Universidade Federal de Santa Maria, se justifica por trazer à tona a realidade que os professores de Geografia enfrentam e assumem enquanto profissionais da educação, já que o objetivo foi compreender o processo de formação continuada dos professores de Geografia da educação básica estadual de Passo Fundo, RS, analisando os avanços, as estagnações, os retrocessos e os desafios evidenciados em sua prática, a partir do início do século XXI. A abordagem metodológica utilizada foi de âmbito qualitativo com o emprego do método dialético, a partir da triangulação de uma análise bibliográfica, de um grupo focal e das respostas dos professores de Geografia da rede pública estadual de Passo Fundo a um questionário. Ao término do trabalho, observou-se que a formação continuada atende às exigências legais, porém não dá conta dos anseios dos docentes. Para tanto, foi criada uma proposta com cronograma anual e atividades e uma nova estrutura organizacional para suprir as necessidades evidenciadas.
