Resumo: Over this research, I analyze the representation modes of the Carmen character in narrative of the same name by Prosper Mérimée and in the film Carmen, by Vicente Aranda, in order to understand the mechanisms used for the construction of the character. In this work, my objective is to discuss the process of representing women from the analysis of the two works, the literary and the cinematographic one, considering the process of knowledge production that establishes the difference of gender from the sexual difference and that contributed to the fixation of the image of women by sexuality. Therefore, from the analysis of the representation of the character, I plan to establish a relation between this form of representation and the ideological structure of the dominant thought responsible for the construction of the image of women as a devil, fixed both in the production of fiction and in concrete social relations. The methodology uses the procedures of comparative literature, both about the corpus that constitutes the research – the literary text and the film adaptation – and about the theory that bases the research through the appropriation of theories distributed in other areas of knowledge besides literature, such as anthropology, philosophy, history and psychoanalysis. I think the possible flexibility between areas of knowledge, especially from cultural studies, that allows us to approach different concepts and to unravel the ideological structures behind them, as well as to deconstruct and to give new meaning to truths that until recently seemed absolute, such as the notions of eroticism and identity.

En este trabajo, mi objetivo es discutir el proceso de representación de la mujer desde el análisis de las dos obras: la literaria y la cinematográfica, teniendo en cuenta el proceso de producción de conocimiento que establece la diferencia de género desde la diferencia sexual y que contribuyeron a la fijación de la imagen de la mujer por la sexualidad. Para ello, pretendo, desde el análisis de la representación del personaje, establecer una relación entre esa forma de representación y la estructura ideológica del pensamiento dominante responsable por la construcción de la imagen de la mujer como demonio, fijada tanto en la producción de ficción cuanto en las relaciones sociales concretas. La metodología utiliza los procedimientos de la literatura comparada, tanto sobre el corpus que constituye la investigación – el texto literario y la adaptación fílmica – cuanto sobre la teoría que fundamenta la investigación, por medio de la apropiación de teorías distribuidas en otras áreas del conocimiento además de la literatura, tales como la antropología, la filosofía, la historia y el psicoanálisis; considero que la flexibilidad posible entre las áreas del conocimiento, principalmente desde los estudios culturales, nos permite aproximar diferentes conceptos y desvendar las estructuras ideológicas fijadas detrás de ellos, así como deconstruir y darle un nuevo significado a las verdades que hasta hace poco tiempo parecían absolutas, como las nociones de erotismo e identidad.Ao longo desta pesquisa, procurei analisar os modos de representação da personagem Carmen na narrativa homônima, de Prosper Mérimée, e na película Carmen, de Vicente Aranda, a fim de perceber os mecanismos utilizados para a construção da personagem. Meu objetivo, neste trabalho, é discutir o processo de representação da mulher a partir da análise das duas obras: a literária e a cinematográfica, levando em consideração os processos de produção de conhecimento que estabelecem a diferença de gênero a partir da diferença sexual e que contribuíram para a fixação da imagem da mulher pela sexualidade. Para tanto, pretendo, a partir da análise da representação da personagem, estabelecer uma relação entre essa forma de representação e a estrutura ideológica do pensamento dominante responsável pela construção da imagem da mulher como demônio, fixada tanto na produção de ficção quanto nas relações sociais concretas.
