The accelerated process of Brazilian urbanization attracts the population that suffers from unemployment in small towns. A consequence of this process are irregular occupations, the result of the absence of public policies aimed at the less favored. The present work will highlight the social inequalities and the struggle for housing in the new Occupation Vila da Bela União Caturrita. It is admitted that the territory does not present a structure of opportunities for the population that lives in it, capable of producing better opportunities and assisting needy populations, whether they are located in the “illegal” peripheries or not. It is important to observe how the interaction of these spatial needs with the social, economic and cultural weaknesses of the local population results in the degree of vulnerability of the places, reducing their potential for coping with the situations experienced, due to the difficulties posed by the lack of opportunities.
