Resumo: The thesis Sioma Bretiman, life with touches: oral history, narrative and medias archeologies in the construction of life trajectory investigate the memories about the Ukrainian immigrant Sioma Breitman (1903-1980). The study brings as a research problem: how can the imagery powers of the “memory media” produced by Sioma be mobilized to build her life narrative? The research tries to understand woh the imagetic powers of the media of memory (ASSMANN, 2011) that he constructed can be awakened and mobilized to build his life narrative. Sioma began his career as a retoucher of negatives and is considered one of the greatest photographers of the 20th century in Rio Grande do Sul. He is remembered as a photographer of tradition for having made portraits of the Porto Alegre elite, especially of brides, historical photographs, and having participated in salons in different countries. However, there are aspects of Sioma's work that have never been studied. It is to them that this research is dedicated. Among these works are an album of a military maneuver in 1940, his work in the countryside of Rio Grande do Sul where he outlined communication strategies to promote his work, and what I call “window cinema”, films he made in Santa Maria under the title Cine Jornal Aurora and exhibited in the windows of his photographic studio. Since this is an unexplored theme, I seek support in oral history, narrative research, and I add myself to the studies of media archeology. In this path, I resort to bibliographic and documental research, and appropriate different images and texts, be they Sioma's films, a documentary made about him, newspaper clippings, articles he published, his self-portraits, photographs, and an autobiography written by the photographer. In this way, text, orality, and images add up to investigate his practices, identify his strategies. I propose to construct and re-signify memories about Sioma's trajectory, based on a narrative that activates the multiple dimensions of photography and the powers of different ‘memory media”. The research shows how he left Ukraine, how he sought to make his work known by projecting images of the city in his shop window and encouraging people to make “movies of their lives”. The result is a narrative that is not only a new approach about this character who was able, for example, to collect five autographs by Getúlio Vargas in one of his portraits. I build the trajectory and seeks to understand what he chooses to preserve about himself and the time as it investigates how “memory media” that Sioma produced.

Ela traz como problema de pesquisa: como as potências imagéticas das “mídias de memória” (ASSMANN, 2011) produzidas por Sioma podem ser mobilizadas para construirmos a sua narrativa de vida? O fotógrafo começou sua carreira como retocador de negativos e é considerado um dos maiores profissionais da sua área do século XX no Rio Grande do Sul. Ele é lembrado como um fotógrafo da tradição por ter feito retratos da elite porto-alegrense, em especial das noivas, fotografias históricas, e ter participado de salões em diferentes países. No entanto, existem faces do trabalho de Sioma que nunca foram estudadas. É a elas que se dedica esta pesquisa. Entre esses trabalhos estão um álbum de uma manobra militar de 1940, sua atuação no interior do Rio Grande do Sul onde o fotógrafo traçou estratégias comunicacionais de divulgação de seu trabalho, e o que chamo de “cinema de vitrine”, filmes que fez em Santa Maria sob o título de Cine Jornal Aurora e exibiu nas vitrines de seu estúdio fotográfico. Como se trata de um tema inexplorado, busco aporte na história oral, na pesquisa narrativa e me somo aos estudos das arqueologias das mídias. Nesse percurso, recorro à pesquisa bibliográfica e documental, e me aproprio das diferentes imagens e textos sejam eles os filmes de Sioma, um documentário realizado sobre ele, recortes de jornal, artigos que publicou, seus autorretratos, as fotografias e uma autobiografia escrita pelo fotógrafo. Ao longo da pesquisa, texto, oralidade e imagens se somam para investigar suas práticas e identificar suas estratégias. Somente assim, foi possível construir e ressignificar as memórias sobre a trajetória de Sioma. Ao acionar as múltiplas dimensões de suas fotografias e as potências das diferentes mídias de memória por ele criadas, a pesquisa mostra como se deu a saída da Ucrânia, como ele buscou tornar seu trabalho conhecido ao projetar as imagens da cidade em sua vitrine e estimular as pessoas a fazerem “filmes de suas vidas”. Como resultado, trago uma narrativa que não só é um novo olhar sobre esse personagem que foi capaz, por exemplo, de coletar cinco autógrafos de Getúlio Vargas em um de seus retratos, mas também que procura compreender o que ele escolheu preservar sobre si e o seu tempo à medida que investiga as “mídias de memória” que Sioma produziu.porUniversidade Federal de Santa MariaCentro de Ciências Sociais e HumanasPrograma de Pós-Graduação em ComunicaçãoUFSMBrasilComunicaçãoAttribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 Internationalhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessMemóriaFotografiaCinemaArqueologias das mídiasMemoryPhotographyMedias archeologiesCNPQ::CIENCIAS SOCIAIS APLICADAS::COMUNICACAOSioma Breitman, a vida com retoques: história oral, narrativa e arqueologias das mídias na construção de trajetórias de vidaSioma Breitman, life with touches: oral history, narrative and medias archeologies in the construction of life trajectoryinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/doctoralThesisTomaim, Cássio dos Santoshttp://lattes.cnpq.br/3376343720313755Morettin, Eduardo VictorioAmaral, Márcia FranzLissovsky, MauricioRossini, Miriam de Souzahttp://lattes.cnpq.br/8227182713396470Daronco, Marilice Amábile Pedrolo6009000000086006006006006006006005bf02e20-83ea-4d22-aea7-b4a917abd122e81537be-f86e-4468-a460-0f65fcd5370320577764-018d-4c9f-aaab-357d42158ccd10775d5a-0b8d-44ef-8966-a32d6fa104100bef83b0-56e8-47e0-81da-e89dd4e7d69e7cd5993f-69e9-48a9-ace1-8decf4b8ddfareponame:Biblioteca Digital de Teses e Dissertações do UFSMinstname:Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (UFSM)instacron:UFSMORIGINALTES_PPGCOMUNICACAO_2021_DARONCO_MARILICE.pdfTES_PPGCOMUNICACAO_2021_DARONCO_MARILICE.pdfTeseapplication/pdf22303359http://repositorio.ufsm.br/bitstream/1/25751/1/TES_PPGCOMUNICACAO_2021_DARONCO_MARILICE.pdf96c6a2c19d4098bed7373770862dc2dfMD51CC-LICENSElicense_rdflicense_rdfapplication/rdf+xml;
