Resumo: This study was carried out at Education and Arts research line associated to the Post-Graduation Program of the Education Center of UFSM/SM/RS and it was focused on handmade weaving teaching with detainee women from Presídio Regional de Santa Maria/RS. The main objectives were: a) reflect on how the collaborator women see themselves in their history and culture and their social interaction (intra/interpersonal), b) investigate the handmade weaving development and learning process, the development of Superior Psychological Functions such as voluntary attention, abstract thinking, logical memory, intentional behavior, creativity and perception. The theoretical reference was based on Vygotsky theory. The qualitative approach of interpretation and descriptive character, the active observation and the field diary were the methodology utilized. The theme, the objectives and the research questions were taken into account. Five women from 22 to 42 years old participated in this research, only one of them has already finished high school. Concerning the weaving learning process, women realize, regulate and plan their works resulting in an internalization progressive process mediated in their action in order to build their own ways of cognitive regulation. During the interactions carried out in this environment, they developed the reflective thinking, the development of Superior Psychological Functions that requires adaptation and internalization of instruments and signs in an interactive context, being this one of the ways to learn. We realized that the development of each collaborator woman was worthwhile in this interaction and learning process.
