Resumo: | Physical activities are an important strategy to improve health and life quality of individuals. Sports in oldness are presented as an alternative for physical inactivity and they are related to the recommendations proposed by WHO through the promotion of active aging, assessing it as a positive process, minimizing the physiological aspects of oldness and optimizing a better life quality with welfare and pleasure. Basketball as a team sport stimulates socialization as well as cooperation and search for problem solution, thus motivating the elderly to accept and learn from their new limitations and individual differences observed on the rest of the team. In this sense, study is to identify the relations between lifestyle and life quality in elderly who are veteran basketball players. This study is descriptive and quali-quantitative with non-probability sampling. Data were collected through Whoqol-old questionnaires, the Pentacle Welfare model and a sociodemographic questionnaire devised by the authors. In addition to a pictorial representation of the group’s Pentacle, the data were tabulated with descriptive statistics and presented in charts. To analyze the data, Spermann correlation was applied for categorical and/or classificatory variables found in the relation of instruments, and Pearson correlation was applied in cases of linear numerical variables. The participants comprised sixteen (16) male basketball players with average age of 66,75 years old. They are higher-educated (43,75%), are either married or in a stable union (81,25%), have two children (37,5%), are homeowners (93,75%), are currently employed (31,25%) and receive four to six monthly minimum wages (37,5%). The finds point out to strong and statistically significant correlations between autonomy and social relationship variables (r=0,650; p=0,009), social engagement and social relationship (r=0,684; p=0,005), death/dying and stress (r=0,620; p=0,014), and the total of Whoqol-old and social relationship (r=0,630; p=0,012). The data showed that practicing basketball has positive influences in elderlies’ lifestyle and life quality, thus enabling a lifestyle profile that is favorable for active aging, which reinforces the positive characteristics in the face of oldness. The characteristics of lifestyle profile and the strong correlations found in the group, such as good social relationships and promotion of autonomy, are functional benefits provided by the practice of physical activities. In addition, they are also means of satisfaction and self-esteem for the elderly, thus being favorable for a better health self-rating. Basketball practice and its continuity favors the maintenance of physical and mental health, socialization, friendship and life satisfaction. This specific sport represents passion, hobby, discipline, pleasure, joy and welfare, for its players – all fundamental characteristics of searching for the construction of a universal philosophy on the aspects of successful aging. |

O esporte na velhice apresenta-se como uma alternativa à inatividade física e está associada às recomendações propostas pela OMS através da promoção do envelhecimento ativo, valorizando o envelhecimento como um processo positivo, minimizando os aspectos fisiológicos da velhice e otimizando uma melhor qualidade de vida, de bem-estar e prazer. O basquetebol como modalidade coletiva estimula além da socialização, a cooperação e a busca por solução de problemas fazendo com que o idoso aceite e aprenda com suas novas limitações e com as diferenças individuais observadas no restante da equipe. Neste sentido, objetivo do estudo é analisar as relações entre estilo de vida e qualidade de vida em idosos veteranos da categoria máster do basquete. Trata-se de um estudo descritivo, quali-quantitativo com amostragem intencional não probabilística. A coleta de dados foi realizada através dos questionários Whoqol-old, Pentáculo do Bem-Estar e um questionário sociodemográfico elaborado pelos autores. Os dados foram tabulados com a estatística descritiva e apresentados em forma de tabelas, além de uma representação pictorial do Pentáculo do grupo. Para análise, quando haviam na relação dos instrumentos variáveis categóricas e/ou classificatórias utilizou-se a correlação de Spermann e quando haviam apenas varáveis numéricas lineares, a correlação de Pearson. Participaram 16 homens praticantes de basquetebol com idade média de 66,75 anos, que possuem ensino superior completo (43,75%), são casados ou possuem uma companheira (81,25%), tem dois filhos (37,5%), residem em moradia própria (93,75%), atualmente estão empregados (31,25%) possuindo de quatro a seis salários mínimos de renda mensal (37,5%). Os achados apontaram correlações fortes e estaticamente significativas entre as variáveis autonomia e relacionamento social (r=0,650; p=0,009), participação social e relacionamento social (r=0,684; p=0,005), morte/morrer e estresse (r=0,620; p=0,014) e o total do Whoqol-old e relacionamento social (r=0,630; p=0,012). Os dados dos manuscritos evidenciaram que a prática esportiva de basquete tem boas influências no estilo e na qualidade de vida dos idosos permitindo um perfil de estilo de vida favorável ao envelhecimento ativo, que reforça características positivas perante a velhice. As características do perfil de estilo de vida e as fortes correlações encontradas no grupo como as boas relações sociais, promoção da autonomia, além de benefícios funcionais proporcionados pela prática de atividade física são fontes de satisfação e autoestima para o idoso, sendo favoráveis para uma melhor autoclassificação da saúde. A prática e permanência no basquete pelo grupo favorece a manutenção da saúde física e mental, a socialização, a amizade e a satisfação com a vida. Esse esporte particular representa para os praticantes a paixão, o hobby, a disciplina, o prazer, a alegria e o bem estar, características fundamentais para a busca da construção de uma filosofia universal sob os aspectos do envelhecimento bem sucedido.porUniversidade Federal de Santa MariaCentro de Educação Física e DesportosPrograma de Pós-Graduação em GerontologiaUFSMBrasilCiências da SaúdeAttribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 Internationalhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessGerontologiaBasqueteIdososBem-estarQualidade de vidaBasketballElderlyWelfareGerontologyQuality of lifeCNPQ::CIENCIAS DA SAUDEO basquete máster e as relações de estilo e qualidade de vida no envelhecimentoThe master basketball and the relations of lifestyle and life quality in aginginfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/masterThesisLemos, Luiz Fernando Cuozzohttp://lattes.cnpq.br/8586428160068943Costa, Leandra Costa daFelden, Érico Pereira Gomeshttp://lattes.cnpq.br/3609585013752000Trauer, Patrícia Cardoso400000000001600600600600600c9e9796c-cbdf-4e11-a307-83e694cddf3758050806-d8ab-457c-a941-33d1d7ad5b5012098372-439d-407a-9dbd-7959455301ac2e0c48c5-9e1d-4e98-aebc-b9e03dc7b11ereponame:Biblioteca Digital de Teses e Dissertações do UFSMinstname:Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (UFSM)instacron:UFSMORIGINALDIS_PPGGERONTOLOGIA_2021_TRAUER_PATRÍCIA.pdfDIS_PPGGERONTOLOGIA_2021_TRAUER_PATRÍCIA.pdfDissertação de Mestradoapplication/pdf916164http://repositorio.ufsm.br/bitstream/1/22741/1/DIS_PPGGERONTOLOGIA_2021_TRAUER_PATR%c3%8dCIA.pdf9c353f0066944e371890986edc807e87MD51CC-LICENSElicense_rdflicense_rdfapplication/rdf+xml;
