In this research examined the relation between the phonological disorder and the mental issues involved in this pathology, as well how the children were positioned at such symptom. The phonological disorder is an alteration of the speech, with the inappropriate use of the phonemes and without organic factors identifiable. Your greatest occurrence is observed between 4 and 8 years old. The aim of this study was to analyze the refractory position and other psychological aspects involved in speech therapy. It was applied a qualitative methodology, from a content analysis. Participated of these study ten children, of both sexes, with aged between 4 and 7 years and 11 months, diagnosed with phonological disorders and forwarded to the Language and Speech Study Center of the Speech Therapy Service at the Federal University of Santa Maria and their parents. For the data collection the instruments used were the fairy tales with the children and a semiestructured interview. The data was generalized and grouped into thematic categories that compared the psychological issues related to phonological disorder and refractory position taken by the children as well as the parental intended meaning both the child and pathology. The data showed that all the children of the study were refractory to linguistic convention because of a difficulty getting out of the period of relative dependence to independence, thus developing a symptom of language. Also pointed to exist a relation between the parental speech and the phonological disorders. Moreover, parental roles seem to determine how the linguistic functioning of the child is affected by it or not.
