Resumo: This study aimed to: describe the perception of the elderly in pre-dialysis treatment about the care provided by him family; describe the family's perception about the care provided to the elderly in pre-dialysis treatment; and describe the dynamics of families that living with an elderly in pre-dialysis treatment. It is a qualitative and descriptive research performed with ten elderly in pre-dialysis treatment attended an outpatient clinic uremia of a public teaching hospital in southern Brazil and members of eight families these elderly, totaling 31 participants. Data collection occurred in two moments: first the elderly, in outpatient clinic participated of an interview and making genograms. After, the family of the elderly at home, participated of interview with circulars questions about care provided to the elderly in pre-dialysis treatment and improvement the genogram already started with elderly. Two families of elderly interviewees refused to participate in the research. Data collection occurred from March to July 2013. The interviews were audio-recorded, transcribed and submitted to thematic analysis. This study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee under number 09996912.5.0000.5346. The results are presented in three articles: the first - perceptions of the elderly in pre-dialysis treatment about care provided by the family shows the family care the elderly of different ways, ensuring well-being by feeling responsible for him, however could offer more care if managed to reorganize themselves, as it the desire of elderly is to have the family more present in old age. The second article is titled: Family s perceptions about elderly care in pre-dialysis: descriptive study, discusses the vision of families about their experience with the demands of aging and nephropathy; searching for information about dialysis and; the search for the satisfaction of the elderly with life and for curing kidney disease. The third article, the family s dynamics front the elderly in pre-dialysis treatment, highlight the changes in daily routine of the family, the fear of family related beginning dialysis and the possibility of death, furthermore, highlight the communication as an element that facilitated family relationships and their absence made it difficult the care. It was concluded that involve the family in outpatient care of elderly is essential for effectuation of pre-dialysis. This is a working field for the nurse, who can advise about treatment, encourage communication between members and discuss possibilities of family reorganization for caring and preserve the autonomy of elderly. The family is concerned with health condition of elderly and strives to meet demands of care arising from natural aging and pathological conditions, being necessary, therefore, qualify the care provided to the elderly, promoting the autonomy of family members. Knowing the dynamics these families can help nurses to provide care in keeping with demands of elderly and their families.

Trata-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa e descritiva realizada com dez idosos em tratamento pré-dialítico atendidos no ambulatório de uremia de um hospital público de ensino no sul do Brasil e membros de oito famílias destes idosos, totalizando 31 participantes. A coleta de dados ocorreu em dois momentos: primeiramente os idosos, no ambulatório participaram de uma entrevista e da confecção do genograma. Após, a família do idoso, em sua residência, participou de uma entrevista com questões circulares sobre o cuidado que presta ao idoso em pré-diálise e do aprimoramento do genograma já iniciado com o idoso. Duas famílias dos idosos entrevistados recusaram-se em participar da pesquisa. A coleta dos dados ocorreu de março a julho de 2013. As entrevistas foram gravadas em áudio, posteriormente transcritas e submetidas à análise temática. O estudo teve aprovação pelo Comitê de Ética em Pesquisa sob o número 09996912.5.0000.5346. Os resultados da pesquisa são apresentados em três artigos: o primeiro - percepções do idoso em tratamento pré-dialítico acerca do cuidado prestado pela família, revela que a família cuida do idoso de diferentes formas, zelando pelo seu bem-estar por sentir-se responsável por ele, no entanto poderia oferecer mais cuidado se conseguisse reorganizar-se, pois o desejo do idoso é ter a família mais presente na velhice. O segundo artigo é intitulado: percepções da família sobre o cuidado ao idoso em pré-diálise: estudo descritivo, aborda a visão das famílias sobre sua convivência com as demandas do envelhecimento e com a nefropatia; a procura de informações sobre a diálise e; a busca pela satisfação do idoso com a vida e pela melhora da doença. O terceiro artigo, a dinâmica familiar frente ao idoso em tratamento pré-dialítico, destaca as mudanças na rotina de vida diária da família, o medo da família relacionado ao idoso ter de iniciar a diálise e a possibilidade de morte, além disso, destaca a comunicação como um elemento que facilitou o relacionamento familiar e sua ausência dificultou o cuidado. Conclui-se que envolver a família no atendimento ambulatorial ao idoso seja indispensável para o seguimento do tratamento pré-dialítico. Este é um campo de atuação para o enfermeiro, que pode orientar sobre o tratamento, incentivar a comunicação entre os membros, discutir sobre as possibilidades de reorganização familiar para o cuidado e preservação da autonomia do idoso. A família preocupa-se com a condição de saúde do idoso e se esforça para suprir as demandas de cuidado decorrentes do envelhecimento natural e das condições patológicas, sendo necessário, portanto, qualificar o cuidado prestado, promovendo a autonomia destes familiares.
