This research sought through the inductive method, descriptive research and quantitative analysis, to demonstrate the capacity to maintain the real income of the retired by the ceiling of the General Social Welfare Regime (RGPS), combined with the savings formed by deposits in the Guarantee Fund for Length of Service (FGTS). The focus on the future real income has ensured the distancing of biases that could misrepresent the scientific research on the theme of social security in Brazil, and it generated important contributions for the debate. The understanding of the roots of the formation of welfare and security in Brazil, coupled with comparative analyses with other countries, also generated proposals for changes in complementary laws that shall result in a regulatory framework booster the pension industry, important to Brazilians who aim for a retirement income above the ceiling of the RGPS.
