Resumo: OBJECTIVE: To describe the metabolic and anthropometric profile of Suyá people living in the Xingu Indigenous Park (Mato Grosso). METHOD: In this cross-sectional study, we evaluated 86 Suyá Indians aged >20 years, of both genders. During the physical examination, we measured blood pressure, weight, height, body perimeters, and skin fold thickness. Samples of blood were collected for lipoprotein, glucose, and uric acid dosage. Chi-square (proportions) and Student t test (means) were used in the statistical analysis to compare nutritional status and metabolic profile variables according to sex and individuals' age group. RESULTS: Women presented mean values of anthropometric variables (weight, body mass index, waist and arm circumferences and skin fold thickness), blood pressure, triglycerides, VLDL, and uric acid statistically lower than men. We found 46.5% weight excess, 12.8% generalized obesity, 38.4% central obesity, 26.7% altered blood pressure, 4%, impaired fasting glucose, 63.9% dyslipidemia, and 21.9% of metabolic syndrome. CONCLUSION: Metabolic and anthropometrics alterations were observed among the Suyá Indians. Educational interventions should be implemented to reestablish habits and similar traditional lifestyle in order to curb the progress of this picture.
