Análise comparativa de laudos de ressonância magnética em texto versus audiovisual em afecções musculoesqueléticas

Radiology studies are inherently visual and reports are often constructed as a text document. Audiovisual reports have not been extensively investigated, as well as their comparison with text reports. We qualitatively and quantitatively compared audiovisual versus text reports on musculoskeletal pathologies using a cross-sectional study in which 40 orthopedic surgeons received reports on 10 different cases with musculoskeletal pathologies that were studied by magnetic resonance imaging. Twenty orthopedic surgeons first received the audiovisual reports, had full access to the images and then answered a first questionnaire. They then received the text report and completed a second questionnaire. The other twenty orthopedic surgeons first received the text report and had full access to the images. They completed the first questionnaire and then received the audiovisual reports, then answered the second questionnaire. Among the responses obtained from the 40 orthopedic surgeons, 92% would prefer to receive the audiovisual reports over the text report. The group that initially received the audiovisual reports demonstrated no change in confidence; on the other hand, there was an increase in confidence for some of the cases in which the text report was shown initially and then the audiovisual reports. The audiovisual report format offers the opportunity for the radiologist to describe and point out relevant imaging findings, and was the preferred method by the referring physicians.
