Resumo: INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVE: The muscle weakness, strength asymmetries and imbalance between antagonist muscles are risk factors for knee injuries. It is possible that these risk factors increase in soccer players with cerebral palsy (CP) due to their pathology and to the sport activity. Therefore, the objective of the present study was to assess the presence of these factors in paralympic athletes with CP from the Brazilian paralympic seven-a-side soccer team. METHODOLOGY: Twenty-one soccer players with CP and spastic hemiplegia were submitted to isokinetic muscle evaluation of their knees flexors and extensors muscles by means of the Cybex 6000 isokinetic dynamometer. The analysis of the muscle strength was performed with a peak torque at 60&deg;/s. The study analyzed the contralateral deficit, the balance between flexor and extensor muscles and compared muscles weakness to the expected values for normal individuals (Neder et al. 1999). The paired t-Student test was used for the statistical analysis with p < 0.05. RESULTS: The peak torque values of the involved flexors (FPT) and extensors (EPT) knee muscles (FPT = 88.4 ± 26.0 Nm and EPT 155.4 ± 37.2 Nm) presented significantly smaller ratios than those of the uninvolved ones (FPT = 116.2 ± 24.8 Nm and EPT = 201.6 ± 38.8 Nm). Only extensor muscles of the involved side were weaker than expected. However, the flexor muscles were weaker than expected in nine out of 21 individuals. The measures of strength of uninvolved knee muscles were not significantly different from the expected values. The average balance between flexors and extensors was within the normal range, although three individuals presented results below the normal range in the uninvolved side and nine of them in relation to the involved side. CONCLUSION: Highly trained soccer players with CP present increased risk factors to knee injuries derived from strength asymmetries, quadriceps muscle weakness and imbalance between antagonistic knee muscles. Thus, a muscular strengthening and evaluation program is highly indicated for this group.

Los futbolistas portadores de paralisis cerebral (PC) posiblemente presenten estos factores de riesgo exacerbados en la evolucion de esta patologia y del deporte. El objetivo de este estudio fué el de evaluar la presencia de estos factores de riesgo para la lesion de la rodilla en atletas, portadores de PC, de la selección paraolímpica brasileña de futbol. MÉTODO: Veintiun futbolistas paraolímpicos, portadores de PC, con hemiparesia espástica fueron sometidos a una evaluación de los músculos flexores y extensores de la rodilla, por medio de dinamómetro isocinético Cybex 6000. Para el análisis de la fuerza muscular fué medido el pico de cambio a 60º/s, que fué utilizado para analizar la deficiencia contra-lateral en relación entre los músculos flexores y extensores de la rodilla y la flaqueza muscular comparados con valores previstos para individuos normales (Neder et al., 1999). El test t-Student apareado fué utilizado para el análisis estadístico (p < 0,05). RESULTADOS Y CONCLUSIÓN: Los valores de pico de cambio para flexores (PTF) extensores (PTE) fueron menores del lado afectado (PTF = 88,4 ± 26,0 Nm y PTE 155,4 ± 37,2Nm) en relación al no afectado (PTF = 116,2 ± 24,8Nm y PTE = 201,6 ± 38,8Nm). Apenas los músculos extensores del lado afectado fueron inferiores a los previstos, ahora, en el análisis individual, nueve individuos presentaron flaqueza de musculos flexores de ese lado. Las medias de las relaciones entre los musculos flexores y extensores de las rodillas están dentro de la faja de normalidad, pueden, asi tres individuos haber presentado relación baja del lado no afectado y nueve del afectado. CONCLUSIÓN: Futbolistas altamente entrenados portadores de PC presentan asimetría de fuerzas, flaqueza del músculo cuadríceps y desequilibrio entre músculos antagonistas de la rodilla, que son factores de riesgo para lesión de las rodillas. Así, un programa de avaliación y fortalecimento muscular direccionado, está indicado para esta población.INTRODUÇÃO E OBJETIVO: A fraqueza muscular, a assimetria de forças e o desequilíbrio entre músculos antagonistas são reconhecidamente fatores de risco para lesão dos joelhos. Futebolistas portadores de paralisia cerebral (PC) possivelmente apresentam estes fatores de risco exacerbados em decorrência desta doença e do esporte. O objetivo do presente estudo foi avaliar a presença destes fatores de risco para lesão do joelho em atletas, portadores de PC, da seleção paraolímpica brasileira de futebol. MÉTODO: Vinte e um futebolistas paraolímpicos, portadores de PC, com hemiparesia espástica, submeteram-se à avaliação dos músculos flexores e extensores dos joelhos, por meio do dinamômetro isocinético Cybex 6000. Para análise da força muscular foi medido o pico de torque a 60º/s, que foi utilizado para analisar a deficiência contralateral, a relação entre músculos flexores e extensores do joelho e a fraqueza muscular comparando com valores previstos para indivíduos normais (Neder et al., 1999). O teste t-Student pareado foi utilizado para a análise estatística (p < 0,05). RESULTADOS E CONCLUSÃO: Os valores de pico de torque para flexores (PTF) e extensores (PTE) foram menores do lado acometido (PTF = 88,4 ± 26,0Nm e PTE 155,4 ± 37,2Nm) em relação ao não acometido (PTF = 116,2 ± 24,8Nm e PTE = 201,6 ± 38,8Nm). Apenas os músculos extensores do lado acometido foram inferiores aos previstos, embora na análise individual nove indivíduos também apresentassem fraqueza dos músculos flexores deste lado. As médias das relações entre músculos flexores e extensores dos joelhos estão dentro da faixa de normalidade, porém, três indivíduos apresentaram relação baixa do lado não acometido e nove do lado acometido. CONCLUSÃO: Futebolistas altamente treinados portadores de PC apresentam assimetria de forças, fraqueza do músculo quadríceps e desequilíbrio entre músculos antagonistas do joelho, que são fatores de risco para lesão dos joelhos.
