Resumo: Objective: to identify factors associated to the dependence of older adults with Diabetes Mellitus, Type 2 Method: analytical and epidemiological study with 99 older adults. The Brazilian Multidimensional Functional Assessment Questionnaire and a questionnaire composed by socio-demographic and clinical variables were used. The independent variables were described and compared to the level of dependence obtained by the chi-square test or the Fisher test, the strength of association was estimated by Odds Ratio and multiple regression. Results: the level of dependence prevailed in 79.8% of the sample. Higher chances of dependence were associated to: cutting toenails

Higher chances of dependence were associated to: cutting toenailsperforming household chorespresenting geriatric problemsurinary incontinencetime of diagnosis of diabetesfalls in the past yearand physical inactivity. Conclusion: considering the positive association of diabetes mellitus to the increased chance of dependence among older adults, there is need for direction and adoption of effective measures to ensure the functionality and quality of life of older adults with diabetes mellitus in a fair and democratic way.Univ Estadual Montes Claros, Montes Claros, MG, BrazilUniv Fed Sao Paulo, Dept Nursing, Sao Paulo, BrazilUniv Fed Sao Paulo, Dept Nursing, Sao Paulo, BrazilWeb of Science868-875engAssoc Brasileira EnfermagemRevista Brasileira De EnfermagemGeriatric NursingOlder AdultOlder Adult's HealthDiabetes MellitusRisk FactorsFactors associated to the dependence of older adults with diabetes mellitus type 2info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/articleBrasilia Df71info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessreponame:Repositório Institucional da UNIFESPinstname:Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP)instacron:UNIFESPORIGINALS0034-71672018000800868.pdfapplication/pdf520680${dspace.ui.url}/bitstream/11600/54294/1/S0034-71672018000800868.pdf3e8e73315fde7eb0359b51638c6066dbMD51open accessTEXTS0034-71672018000800868.pdf.txtS0034-71672018000800868.pdf.txtExtracted texttext/plain44647${dspace.ui.url}/bitstream/11600/54294/20/S0034-71672018000800868.pdf.txt7f0496c2ac70655397249ab0167ef014MD520open accessTHUMBNAILS0034-71672018000800868.pdf.jpgS0034-71672018000800868.pdf.jpgIM Thumbnailimage/jpeg7477${dspace.ui.url}/bitstream/11600/54294/22/S0034-71672018000800868.pdf.jpg792642658b176d99be19c5380ade258cMD522open access11600/542942023-06-05 19:47:37.669open accessoai:repositorio.unifesp.br:11600/54294Repositório InstitucionalPUBhttp://www.repositorio.unifesp.br/oai/requestopendoar:34652023-06-05T22:47:37Repositório Institucional da UNIFESP - Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP)false
