Os filhos excluídos da cidade generosa: o processo de ocupação do Conjunto Habitacional Dirceu Arcoverde em Teresina-PI (1976-1980)

The present article proposes to discuss the process of expansion and reoccupation of the city of Teresina (PI), as well as the strategies of access to housing, privileging problems that involve stories, memories and ways of relating to the urban setting. In this way, an attempt is made to analyze how the occupation process of the Itararé housing complex occurred, which later changed its name to Dirceu Arcoverde, between 1976 and 1980, and its relation with the housing policies in force in this period, marked by the great lack of popular housing in the capital of Piauí, taking as a starting point the analysis of the process of occupation of the area and the struggle for better housing conditions. In this way, the research made use of the hemerographic study from the newspapers O Dia and O Estado, in order to discuss how the press portrayed the occupation of the region and the meanings attributed by its first inhabitants about the process. As a theoretical contribution, the study uses the daily discussion of Michel de Certeau (1999), and Roberto Lobato Corrêa (2003), Raquel Rolnik (2004) notes on urban space and cities. The writings of Maurice Halsbwachs (2003) and Michel Pollak (1992), among others, are also used to discuss this period of great transformation in the urban landscape of the city.
