In this paper we analyze the Portuguese language issues in SISAPTO input evaluation (Tocantins Permanent Evaluation System) conducted in 2016, applied to the teaching network state of Tocantins for High School. From the descriptors that define different skills to be evaluated, the exam has as one of its main objectives to guide directions for the mother language teaching in public schools, in principle, privileging the text as a teaching unit and reading as focus. The analysis of the issues shows how the text should be worked at school, according to a model that repeats since 2011: reading restricted to deciphering, the text being used as a mere resource for the identification of genres by the student, fragmentation and decontextualization preventing the production of meaning, the literary text approach is not considered in its specificity. The discursive semiotics subsidizes our reflection.
