Resumo: This article presents a synthesis on the concept of scale from Blommaert (2010) and Kell (2009; 2015), with some considerations about its use in the practice of sociolinguistic analysis. The research is a bibliographical one, contextualizing the sociolinguistics in times of globalization and highlighting the perspectives of vertical and horizontal scales. Methodological renewal is considered important to accompany sociolinguistic phenomena in the 21st century, and the use of scales, as a category of analysis, becomes a fundamental tool to follow, in practice, the trajectories and movements of people and texts and their relations in space and time.

Methodological renewal is considered important to accompany sociolinguistic phenomena in the 21st century, and the use of scales, as a category of analysis, becomes a fundamental tool to follow, in practice, the trajectories and movements of people and texts and their relations in space and time.Este artículo presenta una síntesis sobre el concepto de escala a partir de Blommaert (2010) y Kell (2009; 2015), con algunas consideraciones sobre su uso en la práctica del análisis sociolingüístico. La investigación es de cuño bibliográfico, contextualizando la sociolingüística en tiempos de globalización y destacando las perspectivas de escalas verticales y horizontales. Se considera importante la renovación metodológica para acompañar los fenómenos sociolingüísticos en el siglo XXI, y el uso de escalas, como categoría de análisis, se convierte en una herramienta fundamental por acompañar, en la práctica, las trayectorias y movimientos de las personas y de textos y sus relaciones en el espacio y en el tiempo.Este artigo apresenta uma síntese sobre o conceito de escala a partir de Blommaert (2010) e Kell (2009; 2015), com algumas considerações sobre seu uso na prática de análise sociolinguística. A pesquisa é de cunho bibliográfico, contextualizando a sociolinguística em tempos de globalização e destacando as perspectivas de escalas verticais e horizontais.
