Resumo: This paper deals with the expansion of the cultural capital in the city of Araguaína/TO through the creation of a museum institution. Our research for this paper was a bibliographical one (as a research technique) and of qualitative character. We used the articulation between theories about cultural capital, social development and the legislations that deliberate in relation to the implantation of museums in municipalities, with a special observation to the city of Araguaína. We see that cultural development can be impacted by the absence of public policies linked to the creation of a museum in the city.

Nossa pesquisa para esse trabalho foi bibliográfica (como técnica de pesquisa) e de cunho qualitativo. Utilizamos a articulação entre as teorias sobre capital cultural, desenvolvimento social e as legislações que deliberam em relação à implantação de museus em municípios, na perspectiva de observação da cidade de Araguaína.
