Resumo: The Enlightenment implies that human education, escaping the control of ecclesiastical and political authorities, would make possible unrestricted access to rational thought. One of the communication tools of the Enlightenment pedagogy were the newspapers, considered a regular letter among men of letters gradually being designed to broader segments of the population. Among the most important representatives of the Enlightenment in Portugal is the journalist José Liberato, author of two newspapers published in London between 1813 and 1821. The author understood their role to introduce the Portuguese in the Age of Reason and is imbued-in a pedagogy that respected both religion and the monarchy. The purpose of this article is to investigate the literate ideals of Liberato, his pedagogical proposal and, most importantly, how his journalistic exercise built a dedicated utopia to think the Portuguese future.

The purpose of this article is to investigate the literate ideals of Liberato, his pedagogical proposal and, most importantly, how his journalistic exercise built a dedicated utopia to think the Portuguese future. Universidade Federal do Tocantins - UFT2015-09-30info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionTextoapplication/pdfapplication/epub+zipapplication/octet-streamapplication/zipapplication/x-gzipapplication/ziphttps://sistemas.uft.edu.br/periodicos/index.php/observatorio/article/view/161810.20873/uft.2447-4266.2015v1n1p103Observatory Journal; Vol. 1 No. 1 (2015): Vol. 1 N. 1 (2015) Tema Livre / Free Theme / Tema Libre Jan-Abril 2015; 103-122Observatorio Magazine; Vol. 1 Núm. 1 (2015): Vol. 1 N. 1 (2015) Tema Livre / Free Theme / Tema Libre Jan-Abril 2015; 103-122Observatoire Journal; Vol. 1 No. 1 (2015): Vol. 1 N. 1 (2015) Tema Livre / Free Theme / Tema Libre Jan-Abril 2015; 103-122Revista Observatório ; v. 1 n. 1 (2015): Vol. 1 N. 1 (2015) Tema Livre / Free Theme / Tema Libre Jan-Abril 2015; 103-1222447-426610.20873/uft.2447-4266.2015v1n1reponame:Revista Observatórioinstname:Universidade Federal do Tocantins (UFT)instacron:UFTporhttps://sistemas.uft.edu.br/periodicos/index.php/observatorio/article/view/1618/8484https://sistemas.uft.edu.br/periodicos/index.php/observatorio/article/view/1618/10624https://sistemas.uft.edu.br/periodicos/index.php/observatorio/article/view/1618/10625https://sistemas.uft.edu.br/periodicos/index.php/observatorio/article/view/1618/10626https://sistemas.uft.edu.br/periodicos/index.php/observatorio/article/view/1618/10627https://sistemas.uft.edu.br/periodicos/index.php/observatorio/article/view/1618/10628Século XX/XXICopyright (c) 2015 Revista Observatorioinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessMunaro, Luís Francisco2022-03-04T13:29:03Zoai:ojs.revista.uft.edu.br:article/1618Revistahttps://sistemas.uft.edu.br/periodicos/index.php/observatorio/oai2447-42662447-4266opendoar:2022-03-04T13:29:03Revista Observatório - Universidade Federal do Tocantins (UFT)false
