This article is a part of the analysis developed in the doctoral thesis "Image and production of meaning about favelas of Rio de Janeiro in journalistic photos", presented in January 2016. Based on the corpus of this study, consisting of 302 images of favelas in Rio de Janeiro, published in the months of September, October and November of the years 2010, 2012 and 2014, we selected photos that portray adult women as protagonists. The objective was to verify the social representation of women in favelas and which social-discursive imaginary could be engendered by this way of presenting them. We observe if it would reinforce crystallized negative stereotypes or if there would be some complexity and diversity. Such a discussion is fundamental since the media produce subjectivities when constructing their discourses.
