AESTHETICAL PATTERNS AND JOB PERFORMANCE FOR WOMEN TELEJOURNALISTS: an exploratory research

Resumo: Although beauty is not an explicit demand our condition to anyone interested in becoming a journalist, it seems to have become an increasing element in the choice of female television news presenters. This paper outlines some aspects of the beauty demands concerning women in telejornalism. It examines the physical caracteristics of female presenters of the main Brazilian television news programs to observe wether there is any common feature among then. Observation suggests a pattern – a thin, white, and brown hair woman, with little presence of any woman outside this model. This findings are discussed mainly from the point of view of identity and symbolic power.

Este artículo describe algunos aspectos de la demanda de un determinado modello hegemónico de belleza a las mujeres en las noticias de televisión. A partir de la observación de la presentación de las principales noticias de televisión, se nota la presencia de un estándar - blanco, cabello castaño, en un modelo físico considerado "fina" con poco espacio para los periodistas fuera de ese modelo. Este patrón se discute desde el punto de vista de los problemas de identidad y poder simbólico.Embora a beleza não esteja entre os pré-requisitos da prática jornalística, , ela parece ser um elemento importante na escolha de apresentadora de telejornais. Este artigo, ponto inicial de uma pesquisa em desenvolvimento, delineia alguns aspectos dessa demanda, colocada para as jornalistas, de atingir um determinado padrão hegemônico de beleza no telejornalismo. A partir do observação das apresentadoras dos principais telejornais da TV aberta, nota-se a presença de um padrão  – apresentadoras brancas, de cabelo castanho, dentro de um tipo físico considerado “magro”, com pouco espaço para jornalistas fora desse modelo.
