LGBT characters in soap operas of Rede Globo from 2014 to 2016: a reflection from the Queer Studies

Resumo: The article seeks to reflect on the representation of LGBT characters in soap operas of RedeGlobo. For that, a survey of LGBT characters present in Globo TV telenovelas from 2014 to 2016 was carried out, a survey of the websites of Gshow and MemóriaGlobo, besides consulting sites about telenovelas and also the follow-up, when watching during or after of the exhibition period, through the Globo Play platform. The analysis is based on queer studies, especially Judith Butler's theory of performativity. The study concludes that the telenovela constructs its representations in a negotiated way: if on the one hand, it increases the visibility of LGBT characters; on the other hand, it keeps them within a heteronormative or asexual pattern. Still, it favors greater acceptance of the generalized and sexed identities that are outside the heterosexual matrix.

Para ello, se realizó un levantamiento de personajes LGBT presentes en las telenovelas de la Rede Globo en el período de 2014 a 2016, una encuesta en los sitios del Gshow y Memoria Globo, además de consultar sitios sobre telenovelas y también el propio acompañamiento, al asistir durante o después del período de exhibición, a través de la plataforma Globo Play. El análisis toma como base los estudios que, especialmente la teoría de la performatividad de Judith Butler. El estudio concluye que la telenovela construye sus representaciones de forma negociada: si por un lado, aumenta la visibilidad de personajes LGBT; de otro, los mantiene dentro de un patrón heteronormativo o asexual. Sin embargo, favorece la mayor aceptación de las identidades generalizadas y sexuadas que están fuera de la matriz heterosexual.L'article cherche à refléter le respect de la représentation des personnages LGBT dans les telenovelas Rede Globo. Pour cela, une enquête sur les personnages LGBT présents dans les telenovelas de Globo TV de 2014 à 2016 a été réalisée, une enquête sur les sites Web de Gshow et de Memória Globo, ainsi que des sites de consultation sur les telenovelas et le suivi, lors du visionnage pendant ou après de la période d’exposition, via la plateforme Globo Play. L'analyse est basée sur des études queer, en particulier la théorie de la performativité de Judith Butler. L'étude conclut que la telenovela construit ses représentations de manière négociée: si, d'une part, elle augmente la visibilité des caractères LGBT; d'autre part, il les maintient dans un modèle hétéronormatif ou asexué.
