This paper aims to make a brief discussion about the writing itself of biographical and genealogical character, using as a basis the genealogy of Yony Sampaio on family Sá Barreto, considered one of the most economically important and politically the city of Barbalha , located in the south Ceará Cariri. The work highlights the importance of such a file in control of posterity and family power, but also the maintenance of privileges. In this sense, the constant concern to archive traces of history itself, results from the pressures and demands that we are all subjected. Therefore, the theoretical discussion about the file itself, it is very useful to help us understand the uses that certain individuais make of their past.
