Resumo: Microcredit has been adopted in several countries as a tool capable of generating income,reducing social inequalities and empowering women. In this context, focusing on the genderperspective, this article aims to analyze whether microcredit contributed to the empowermentof women beneficiaries of the People's Bank in Palmas / Tocantins. The methodology adoptedis the Oral History that bares networks of beneficiaries' daily life, which gives them voice andbrings to the fore processes triggered by microcredit. The testimonies show that, althoughmicrocredit brings improvements in living conditions, the empowerment of these clients wasnot achieved in the sense of giving them conditions of emancipation, autonomy, socialparticipation, self-esteem and educational training.

Neste contexto, com foco na perspectiva de gênero, o presente artigo tem como objetivo analisar se o microcrédito contribuiu para o empoderamento de mulheres beneficiárias do Banco do Povo em Palmas/Tocantins. A metodologia adotada é a História Oral que desnuda redes do cotidiano das beneficiárias, que lhes dá voz e traz à tona processos desencadeados a partir do microcrédito. Os depoimentos evidenciam que, apesar de o microcrédito trazer melhorias nas condições de vida, o empoderamento destas clientes não foi alcançado no sentido de dar-lhes condições de emancipação, autonomia, participação social, autoestima e formação educacional.   PALAVRAS-CHAVE: Microcrédito; Perspectiva de gênero; Empoderamento; Desempoderamento; Banco do Povo.     ABSTRACT Microcredit has been adopted in several countries as a tool capable of generating income, reducing social inequalities and empowering women. En este contexto, con foco en la perspectiva de género, el presente artículo tiene como objetivo analizar si el microcrédito contribuyó para el empoderamiento de mujeres beneficiarias del Banco del Pueblo en Palmas / Tocantins. La metodología adoptada es la Historia Oral que desnuda redes de lo cotidiano de las beneficiarias, que les da voz y trae a la luz procesos desencadenados a partir del microcrédito.
