Resumo: Neste artigo, analisa-se a dinâmica da produção de soja e seus reflexos na produção agrícola camponesa no município de Brejo-MA. Para tanto, apresenta-se um breve panorama das transformações ocorridas no campo Maranhense. Posteriormente discute-se o estabelecimento da produção sojícola no município de Brejo. Com base nas informações sobre a produção agrícola municipal do IBGE, esta pesquisa revela uma relação inversamente proporcional entre crescimento da produção de soja e diminuição das áreas destinadas ao cultivo de produtos como arroz e mandioca, base alimentar da agricultura camponesa do município de Brejo-MA.
