Among the village and the cities: remaining of the Tapuia People from Carretão (Goiás, Brazil) in an urban context

The article presents the research conducted with the Tapuia people of Carretão, who have a traditional territory in the São Patrício Valley region, state of Goiás, Brazil. The research aimed to understand the way of life, new territorialities and re-significations of living in the city after leaving the village to live in the neigh boring cities of Nova América and Rubiataba. The analysis was based on historical-dialectical materialism, with a quali-quantitative approach, and the methodology was based on participant observation, including bibliographic survey, construction of a field diary, interviews, observation, photographic records, and elaboration of maps. The research concludes that the changes to the cities were motivated by needs related to employment, income, medical assistance, and expanding their studies, but also provoked changes in the way of life and sociocultural re-significations.
