Resumo: This paper relates the results of an interview with undergraduate students and discusses the importance of understanding the concepts of grammar, language and norm from a scientific point of view in order to consolidate the critical thinking. The hypothesis which motivates this study is that those beliefs about good and bad language (endorsed by many teachers according to previous studies) is due to comprehending those concepts from a prescriptive point of view.
