Resumo: Social representations of violence against women and the role of linguistic strategies are investigated in a corpus constituted by 100 news stories about violence against women in Brazil between 2018 and 2019, in which the grammatical resources used for the inclusion or exclusion of social actors were controlled. The use of strategies to omit the aggressors, such as the passive voice and the agency attributed to other actors to take the aggressor out of the foreground, are recurrent strategies that reinforce and naturalize already existing social representations and hinder the fight against violence against women.
