Resumo: This paper aims to:  i) propose, in the light of the three waves of the variationist studies (ECKERT, 2012), methodological reconfigurations to analytically deal with social, identity and stylistic informations that emerge from sociolinguistic interviews; and; ii) apply the proposal in the treatment of variable use of discourse markers (DM), arguing about the relationship of these items with macrossociological, local sociocultural and individual categories. Based on a speech data reanalysis of individuals from  Florianópolis city, Santa Catarina, Brazil (VALLE, 2001; 2014),  it was possible to: i)  highligth the information contained in the interviews that allowed the construction of extra-linguistic variables connected with specific demands (of the community and/or of the studied  linguistic phenomenon); and ii) show, through DM variable use analysis, how the social meaning moves from the macro-sociological categories to local demographic and sociocultural categories, becoming strongly associated with identity and stylistic aspects.
