Resumo: The social-rhetorical line of studies of text genres (SWALES, 1990; BAZERMAN, 1997) has presented interesting results in the teaching of English for Specific Purposes (ESP). A considerable amount of this research is related to academic genres (BIBER et al., 2002). This paper aims at extracting relevant data for the preparation of material for the teaching of technical terminology in ESP in the academic environment. Research articles in the area of Computer Science have been compared to a very specific genre in the area of Power Engineering: datasheets. Through the use of computing tools such as AntConc and TermoStat and corpora of both genres, features of the most frequent occurrences of specialized collocations (HAUSMANN, 1990) have been observed. The results point to similarities and differences between specialized collocations in the academic articles and the datasheets, evidencing the importance of applying Corpus Linguistics in the planning of ESP teaching.
