The Portuguese language as a resource of Brazilian foreign policy in the light of cultural diplomacy

Resumo: The present work aims to establish a dialogue between the field of international relations and language policy as a way of understanding the importance of the Portuguese language for cultural diplomacy as a way to obtain advantages for Brazilian foreign policy and to promote a good image of Brazil. It will be tried to discuss why the country prioritized the creation of Brazilian Cultural Centers (CCBs) in countries of Latin America and Africa instead of expanding them to new emerging powers. We believe that Brazilian diplomacy has focused on disseminating its image to international aspirations, among them winning votes from developing countries for a future reform of the UN Security Council.
