Resumo: | Portuguese language comprises many constructions, which are seen as form – meaning pairings (GOLDBERG, 2006). Among the relations established in language, conclusive relations are normally understood as the connection between two segments through a connector. In this study, we consider the constructions represented by the scheme [Segment 1 POR ISSO Segment 2]. We analyze the trajectory of the construction in a sample composed by eighteen texts that belong to different stages: archaic, classical and modern/contemporary. This way we analyzed registers since XIII to XXI centuries. The data collected were statistically analyzed based on three properties in terms of meaning and three in terms of form. Results analysis showed that the construction tends to establish more objective relations, with little or no involvement of the speaker. Moreover, possible ongoing changes indications were found, especially concerning the position of the connector in the clause and the type of segment connected by the conclusive clause. |
